Alfred North Whitehead's process-relational metaphysics can assist in understanding the dynamic relationship between God and world and resolve an ambiguity in the classical Thomistic view defended by Elizabeth A. Johnson. Johnson attempts to reconcile spontaneity with divine providence using the Thomistic concepts of God as Subsistent Being and the participation of creatures in God's act of being. A logic of intersubjectivity based on Whitehead's account of creativity helps to resolve the ambiguity in the Thomistic concepts of person and nature.
