The Montana-based Washington Organization is expanding its railroad holdings with purchase of 1,143 miles of former Soo Line trackage from Canadian Pacific Railway. The sale includes CP's 513-mile Chicago-Kansas City line and 630 miles of lines in northern Iowa and southern Minnesota. Regulatory approval will be required, and CP said it expects to close on the transaction early next year.
