Worcester history is linked to four family names - Chandler, Lincoln, Salisbury and Washburn.

The Tory Chandlers pretty much ran Worcester and Worcester County for the 30 years just preceding the Revolution. The Lincolns, as Jeffersonian Democrats, National Republicans and Whigs, were powerful players in Worcester, in Massachusetts and in Maine for the first 50 years of the 19th century.
