A GOP senate sees the use of Social Security surplus as threatening the security of retiring seniors in the future. The preservation act will keep it solvent. But the author feels that the act is inadequate and that the way social security funds are now invested will insure its future integrity.

Yes: Don't spend tomorrow's benefits for seniors on today's federal business as usual.

Instead of saving the surplus Social Security funds for retiring senior citizens, Washington is wasting them on other government programs to mask the true size of the federal budget deficit.
