Prime Tanning Co. has totally rewritten the rules on how suppliers can be integral partners in the manufacturing and marketing process.

The Rochester, N.H.,-based tanning giant this year produced and shipped more leather than any other manufacturer in the world. And while other tanneries shrunk and consolidated, Prime achieved levels never before dreamed of in this industry: It now produces in both Missouri and Maine, and has relocated to a state-of-the-art, $20 million facility that spans 200,000 square feet.
