Executives from Gianfranco Ferre and Basile, two of the Italian fashion houses involved in Italy's tax bribery trial, testified on December 18, 1996, that they paid bribes after auditors repeatedly harassed them. Former Ferre director of administration Luciano Scarpetti and former Basile managing director Nicola DiLuccio provided testimony. The bribes, paid to tax officials between 1989 and 1991, ranged from $62,000 to $260,000.
