The effects of nutrient loads on the growth rates of ribbed mussels, Geukensia demissa, were investigated in six estuaries of Waquoit Bay, MA. Mussels from each estuary were subjected to different nutrient (nitrogen) loads. The results revealed that nitrogen loading decreased age-specific growth rates of shrimps. In contrast, mussels subjected to low nitrogen loads increased high growth rates.
