San Francisco, CA, embraced abstract expressionism, popularly regarded as a New York phenomenon, when it hosted 'The San Francisco School of Abstract Expressionism' in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Arts. The exhibition included works by James Kelly, John Saccaro and Sonia Getchoff. It also showcased the art of Frank Lobdell, such as 'April 1954, Number 1' and 'Black Edge III,' and those of Walter Kuhlman and Charles Strong.
