ONCE A LAGGARD OF THE INORGANICS BUSINESS, the sodium silicate market has tightened up in the face of rationalized capacity and increased demand.
Silicate producers are implementing 4 to 5 percent price increases at the beginning of this month. They are citing raw material and transportation costs, but industry observers say the price hikes may be more a reflection of tightness in the market than anything else.
