The International Labor Organization is praising the apparel industry for its efforts to reduce unfair child labor practices around the world. Publicity and pressure from importers and retailers about labor abuses, including sweatshops in Asia and a slave shop in California, have spurred the industry to reassess its approach to children in the workplace. The apparel industry has often come under attack because of its tendency to disregard labor regulations in an attempt to gain unfair trade advantages.
