Indoor air quality can deteriorate because of a poorly designed moisture trap in the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (hvac) system. The trap and water seal prevent moisture from entering into the system, causing problems such as bacterial contamination and damage from water overflow. The trap may be the correct height, and the drain trap must slope to prevent accumulation of particles and formation of algae. Other considerations are discussed.
