Sport utility vehicles (SUVs) are the motoring phenomenon of the 1990s. Although once a novelty on America's streets, the toy of the off-road enthusiast, or the "wheels" of the sixties rebel, SUVs now account for 1 of 9 passenger vehicles sold in this country.
