The intertidal zone usually preserves imprints of human activities and prehistoric landscapes. The Formby Point in northwest England along the Irish Sea coast has footrpints preserved on its Late Holocene silts and sands. Dating the prints indicates that they were made during the New Stone Age or Bronze Age. Most of the impressions are children's footprints, with a scattering of men's, women's and animals', such as red deer and horse. The prints also reveal some abnormalities such as missing toes and bursitis.
