Observers believe that Eritrea will succeed economically, whether or not it becomes an open and participatory country. The experiences of the high- growth East Asian countries indicate that economic gains can be attained apart from democratic gains. Eritrea is then seen as starting on a steady economic growth path, as the country thrives on honesty, determination, independence, efficiency and a willingness to sacrifice.
