Murayama Tomoyoshi, leader of the artists' group called Mavo, proposed 'ishikiteki koseishugi,' or conscious constructivism, a theory that seeks to eliminate the boundaries between art and daily life. Mavoists rebelled against convention by combining industrial products with painting or printmaking. Protests against social injustice were portrayed by pessimism and collage use, while theatrical eroticism mocked public morality.
