Qatar, the first Gulf state to set up trade relations with Israel, has made good its threat to slow down the pace of normalisation following the hard line that Binyamin Netanyahu has taken on the peace process since he won the Israeli elections in May. In one of the first practical demonstrations that Arab countries are having second thoughts about expanding economic ties with Israel, Qatar has put on hold its plans to open a trade office there.
