BEIJING, Oct 16 Asia Pulse - China's Ministry of Commerce has begun accepting thulium export applications as of October 14.
Thulium is the least abundant of the rare earths. It is an easily workable metal with a bright silvery-gray luster and can be cut by a knife. Natural thulium has possible use in ferrites (ceramic magnetic materials) used in microwave equipment, and can be used for doping fiber lasers.
According to industry experts, China exports around 80,000 tons of thulium per annum, and the volume for 2009 will be maintained at this level.
