One thing asphalt has had going for it is price. Historically, asphalt has offered a relatively inexpensive paving material. But the recent spike in the cost of a barrel of oil has sent asphalt prices soaring, and that has led to the postponement of many paving projects.
However, asphalt's loss is concrete's gain. With asphalt costs skyrocketing, suddenly concrete is more price-competitive with asphalt, and a growing number of projects are going "white top."
