Studies on genetic selection and linebreeding that began in 1934 at the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) Fort Keogh Livestock and Range Research Laboratory improved performance in Hereford cattle. The most successful ARS herd, known as Line 1, conquered dwarfism and slow animal growth.
