Jean Subrenat, co-translated with Andree Subrenat, Collection Ktemata 19 (Louvain and Paris: Peeters, 2007). 803 pp. ISBN 978-90-429-1818-7. 49.00 [euro]. Gaydon was last published in its entirety in 1862 (in the 'Anciens poetes de la France' series); since then, there have been two partial editions, in 1907 and 1911; not surprisingly, studies are rather thin on the ground, and it tends rather to appear in footnotes. This edition, then, by one of France's foremost specialists in the chanson de geste, is very welcome indeed. Gaydon ...
