CORONA, Calif.--Aug. 9--Fender Musical Instruments said Thursday it will build a state-of-the-art factory in Corona and spend $40 million over the next five years to bolster electric guitar production.

The announcement ends weeks of speculation about where the privately held firm would expand and solidifies Corona as guitar-making capital of the world.

"We will put most of the manufacturing here in Corona," said Bill, Schultz, Fender chairman and chief executive.

The initial expansion, which could begin by late 1996, will involve construction of a 200,000-square-foot guitar ...
