CPSC alert on halogen: issues tips on hot-bulb safety.(Consumer Product Safety Commission)

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a consumer warning for the safe use of halogen lamps. The warning advises consumers never to drape any fabric over the lamp and never place the lamp where it can come into contact with drapes or other fabrics. The Commission issued the advisory in the wake of several fires that were attributed to halogen lamp usage. However, several lamp manufacturers already include such warnings in their instruction leaflets, and are developing safer lamps, such as ones that have an automatic shut-off feature when the lamps are tilted.
