Rehabilitation professionals need to use an individualized approach to treatment based on an assessment of the handicapped adult's skills, interests and work habits. The Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communications Handicapped Children (TEACCH) program is evaluated as it applies to adults with autism. The program's intervention components are: structured teaching, communication training, leisure and social skills.
