President Clinton formed a panel of 10 officials drawn from clothing manufacturers and retailers to set standards that will keep apparel produced in sweatshops from being sold at US stores. The panel is charged with devising a way to make clothing that has been manufactured through exploitative means recognizable to the public. One such proposal involves labeling products that have been produced in compliance with international labor standards.

WASHINGTON -- President Clinton took up the anti-sweatshop cudgel Friday, drawing support and skepticism from the industry.
