Eleven poets, critics, essayists, fictionists and translators from Greece, Ireland, Austria, Iceland, Pakistan, Spain, Lebanon, Canada and the USA make up the jury for the 1996 Neustadt International Prize for Literature. Djelal Kadir, essayist, critic, editor and translator from the USA is a permanent member of the jury and chairs it. With the exception of the chair, the rest of the jury have presented candidates for the literary prize. The candidates come from India, Greece, Latvia, Algeria, Australia, Spain, Belgium, Mexico, Morocco, and China.
