BOULDER, Colo. _ Professor and writer Judith Jacobsen has been calmly sounding the alarm for years:
The United States is growing too fast, straining its ability to deal with the spinoffs of growth _ pollution, congestion, urban sprawl and the consumption of natural resources like land and water.
Increasing population, she says, is not the path to prosperity.
To some, it is not a popular position.
