US Rep Jimmy Hayes (R-LA) continued his attacks on Fruit of the Loom Inc., the Chicago, IL-based underwear company that is a major employer in his district. Hayes claims that Fruit of the Loom is attacking him for his failure to co-sponsor Rep John Spratt's textile bill, which the bill's sponsors claim will enable the textile industry to preserve domestic jobs. Hayes charges that Fruit of the Loom is planning to relocate Louisiana jobs to offshore locations and has demanded that the company pledge not to do so.
