Artist Paul Cadmus is considered to be one of the most prominent figurative artists in the US. He uses egg tempera for highly realistic renderings of human spirituality and his figures have been compared to those of Michelangelo. Cadmus admits that he has been subjected to censorship by a public that misunderstands his imagery. However, his humanistic approach to representation has also drawn the admiration of people such as writer E.M. Forster.
