William Powell, 79, never wavered in his goal for equitable treatment on the golf course. So when Whites refused to let him play on their facilities, he built his own.

Powell cleared some farm land for a nine-hole golf course on Route 30 in East Canton, OH, and named it Clearview Golf Club.

Fifty years later, the club's plush greens and fairways span some 130 acres and have become a popular, integrated 18-hole course.
