The Polish film industry has made a turnaround in terms of production standards and procedures. However, the industry is facing a number of problems. The attainment of social reforms and the consequent abolition of state censorship led to the influx of foreign films in the local market, providing stiff competition to locally made ones. The financing of films in the country is also not effective. The poor returns generated by local films provide little support for production costs. The Polish film industry has the potential to boom if it can overcome some of its present shortcomings.
