Insurance agents and brokers are undecided about the benefits that electronic underwriting systems can have on their industry. Proponents of the systems, which compare electronic client data against a list of known risk factors, say that they provide more exact means of estimating risk. Opponents of the systems admit they provide cost savings but claim they undermine the human relationships between clients and agents on which the industry depends.
