ATLANTA _ Laura Coenen held up as bravely as she could, fighting off the agony of this bitter defeat, seeing her fondest Olympic dreams vanish forever.

``I was doing OK ... until now,'' Coenen said, as the tears began to flow and her voice cracked with emotion. ``I'm sorry. It's just very hard right now.''

Coenen plays team handball, so there weren't any TV cameras in sight Sunday afternoon to record this sad moment at the Summer Games. But that doesn't mean her reactions were any less poignant _ or any less genuine _ than a swimmer, track star or gymnast after the United ...
