ATLANTA _ Erin Hartwell's Olympic record lasted about a minute.

The silver medal he won in the 1-kilometer time trial during the 1996 Olympic track cycling competition Wednesday will stand forever.

``I won't be satisfied until I win a world championship or an Olympic gold medal,'' said Hartwell, 27, who trains in Colorado Springs. ``This time I lost by two-tenths of a second. The way I look at it, I came up just short for a gold medal against the best cyclists in the world.''

For a brief moment, it looked like Hartwell would win the gold.
