In May, when South Africa was at the height of the "xenophobia" attacks, most watched in horror as "foreigners", perceived to be "fair game" by some, were systematically sought out and attacked. It was a time of shame for South Africa - which had, with the help of many neighbouring states, crossed its own real Rubicon into democracy.

Mwenya Kabwe, co-starring in a touring production of actress/playwright Dael Orlander Smith's explosive American drama Yellowman, was in Holland at the time.
