Rare specimens obtained from the Elmwood zinc deposit in central Tennessee have been identified as barian celestine. The fibrous white specimens, which were mistakenly tagged as anglesite, were identified as barian celestine after they had been subjected to atomic absorption and X-ray diffraction tests. Evidence indicates that the barian celestine arises from the alteration of strontian barite, which is abundant at the deposit.
