In 1993, 21,620 teenagers less than 18 years old suffered on-the-job injuries and illnesses that were reported. Teenagers who worked in food establishments suffered the greatest percentage of injuries, with 39%, while those who worked in department stores suffered only five percent of the injuries reported.
