La reception de Corneille dans le monde germanique peut s'etudier selon trois axes chronologiques bien distincts. Le premier est celui de l'age baroque des annees 1660-1720/1740. Corneille est traduit et joue par des troupes scolaires, d'etudiants ou professionnelles. Trois oeuvres dominent alors : Horace, Cinna et Polyeucte, mais Le Cid, moins apprecie, est encore traduit en vers (alexandrins allemands) en 1728, il est vrai a Strasbourg (1).
