Students and collectors of windsor furniture are familiar with 18th-century cabinetmaker and chairmaker Michael Stoner. Physical and documentary evidence show that Stoner was a chairmaker during his stay in Harrisburg, PA, before the mid-1790s.
Michael Stoner is known to collectors and students of windsor furniture through a small number of surviving chairs stamped or branded "M*STONER" (see Pl. I). The chairs shown in Plates III and VI were first published in 1982.(1) Documentary ...
