Indian poets differ from their western counterparts in the several ways. They are expected to have mastery of language in all its aspects, from meaning to grammatical structure, and at all levels, from the concrete/literal to the theological and cosmic levels. They also must master use of meter and be much wiser Finally, control of language through intuition is of great importance. The true poet should reach the sixth level of understanding, which few people are able to achieve.
