Pontiac Div. was formed in 1926 by GM Pres. Alfred Sloan who believed that GM should develop a new automobile brand that will fill in the gap between its low-priced Chevrolet model and its high-priced Oldsmobile. Pontiac's first automobile was the Oakland which stayed in production until 1932. In 1933, Pontiac introduced its Straight Eight engine which was followed by its trademark Silver Streak hood treatment process in 1935.
