Bug bites and bee stings can bring summer play to a screeching halt. Here are some tips to help you avoid them.

* Do not use perfumes, scented soaps, or hair spray.

* Wear shoes when you go outdoors.

* Leave beehives and wasps' nests alone.

* Don't play in areas where insects are likely to gather (near flower gardens, garbage, or stagnant pools of water).

* Avoid wearing brightly colored clothing or flowery prints.

If you get stung by a bee:

* Remove the stinger immediately by scraping the skin with a stiff object, such as a credit card. Do not use tweezers. ...
