Not surprisingly, the breakup of Yugoslavia has triggered a spate of publications that seek to describe what happened. Many take sides. Most are emotional. Now, nearly five years after the declarations of independence of Slovenia and Croatia, three considered accounts of the crisis in the former Yugoslavia have appeared. All three are carefully documented. And all three present an entirely different explanation of the origins and evolution of the crisis.
