Fishermen battle ban.

FISHERMEN in north Northumberland are fighting a ban on landing mackerel, which has been slapped on them.

About 100 fishermen based in Amble, Blyth, Seahouses and Newbiggin have taken advantage of a bumper harvest of mackerel to boost the income of the already decimated North Sea fleet.

But despite large stocks in the North Sea, they have now been slapped with a mackerel ban by the Marine Fisheries Agency.

They have the backing of Northumberland County Council, which has vowed to lobby regional and Euro MPs and the MFA after their plight was raised at a meeting of the ...
