Abe Pierce III recently made history as the first Black mayor of Monroe, LA, since Reconstruction.
Pierce, 61, a Democrat and a 24-year veteran of the Ouachita Parish Police Jury, defeated John Bryant, a White Republican.
Pierce also is the first new mayor of Monroe in 17 years, replacing Bob Powell, who lost a bid for re-election in the March 12 primary.
With all the precincts reporting, Pierce had 9,876 votes to Bryant's 9,531. Black voter...
