Background
Microsatellite or SSR markers are PCR-based markers widely used in mapping and QTL detection studies in plants [1]. A number of methods have been used to identify microsatellite markers including a Fast Isolation by AFLP of Sequences COntaining repeats (FIASCO) approach [2].
