A 1994 survey of jails and juvenile facilities on AIDS education programs reveals that not enough facilities have these programs in proportion to the high amount of AIDS or sexually transmitted disease incidence among inmates. In 1994, 48% of the prisons had instructor education, 7% had peer programs, 72% had audio-visual materials and 88% had literature.
