Erecting a 16'(5 m) tepee on our school grounds created a vast area of experiences for our students. The project developed out of an interdisciplinary thematic unit focusing on Native American cultures.
The school board had purchased a tepee cover which came without poles and other necessities required to erect it. As a way of introducing the unit, we invited our students to submit designs that could be put on T-shirts and hats which would be sold to raise money for purchasing the additional supplies.
