Fleeing Vichy France, Surrealist painter Andre Masson arrived in New York in May 1941, where he was welcomed as an eminent "artist in exile." Years later, he would maintain that "things came into focus" for him in America, where he "matured." This excellent exhibition, "Andre Masson in America (1941-45)," deftly surveyed his wartime art and brought his achievement into focus for the present-day public.
