Apr. 11--There's a new sign of life at Cross County Plaza -- or rather one sign that announces the construction of a 37,000-square-foot Publix supermarket and the need for more tenants at the Macon Road shopping center.

Within two weeks, construction crews will demolish the center's northeast wing and spend 15 months rebuilding it for Publix. The developer is negotiating to bring a warehouse-style bookstore and an athletic goods store.

"There is going to be a complete change in the character of the center," said developer Dusty Wiederhold, principal of Atlanta-based Retail ...
