This volume examines Theodore Roosevelt's tenure as police commissioner of New York City. He was sworn in on 6 May 1895, and his colleagues - Avery Andrews, Andrew Parker, and Frederick D. Grant (son of the Civil War general) - elected TR president of the police board. Roosevelt and the board cleaned house; beginning with the incumbent chief of police, they rooted out corruption.
